Our Mother of Consolation to Host Clothing Drive

The drive will take place March 31 and April 1.

Spring cleaning could help benefit the needy in and around Philadelphia. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at in Chestnut Hill is hosting a Clothing & Household Item Collection on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Collections of gently used clothing and household items as well as inactive cell phones will be accepted in the church parking lot at 9 East Chestnut Hill Avenue (the corner of Norwood and East Chestnut Hill Avenues).

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international, non-profit charitable organization of lay Catholics serving those with "material, emotional and spiritual needs – regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation", according to a press release.

Volunteers are dedicated to helping others by collecting and distributing food and clothing to needy families.  

“Ultimately we want to deliver face-to-face encounters with those we serve,” said OMC Conference President, Ron Mandel, in the release.  “Following the lessons of St. Vincent, we try to seek and comfort the lost and forgotten.”

The OMC Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Society is asking for support in its mission. The society is asking for women’s, men’s and children’s clothing in good condition, (placed in bags or on hangers) and shoes bound together.  All household items must be in good, and functional condition.

The Society also collects donations of large furniture, care, trucks, vans, boats or motorcycles, working or not.  These should not be brought to the Drive, but can be picked up from your home by calling 215.288.8160.  For more information about the Collection or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, contact 215.247-0430.
