Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kaitlyn graduated from nearby Arcadia University with a degree in print communications.

She spent her middle and high school years at J.R. Masterman in Fairmount, and through those years became close friends with students and families from the Chestnut Hill area.

Before coming to Patch, Kaitlyn had been covering the Abington, Jenkintown and Cheltenham suburbs for The Times Chronicle newspaper.

When she is not writing about Chestnut Hill, Kaitlyn can be found playing guitar or piano, browsing at local record shops or catching a play at any of the Philadelphia area theaters.

Your Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics: How would you describe your political beliefs?

I would consider myself a bit left of center, as a registered Democrat, particularly on domestic policy. When it comes to local politics, however, I find that there is very little difference between conservatives and liberals; everyone just wants the best for their community.

Religion: How religious would you say you are? Casual, observant, devout, non-religious?

I grew up with a very religious family, but one that has been supportive of me finding my own beliefs. When I find them, I’ll let you know.

Local Hot Button Issues: What do you think are the two or three most important issues facing the community? Where do you stand on each of these issues?

Commercial real estate is an issue in Chestnut Hill, as in most communities. People want to know what shops are coming, staying and leaving. They also want to know why.

I also think the arts are one of the best assets to Chestnut Hill. They not only serve residents, but the arts bring patrons from other neighborhoods to the Hill.

While there is really no opinion to be formed on these issues, I will thoroughly cover these, and other issues in the community.
