Bass Still Searching For District Office

The office location depends on her budget for next year.

It's unclear whether incoming Councilwoman Cindy Bass will have a district office in place when she is sworn in Jan. 2.

Bass talked about the issue at .

Board member Marilyn Lambert asked Bass if she plans to get an office in the district. Bass said she would like to, but City Council does not pay for district offices, so the money would likely have to come out of her campaign funds, or Bass could try to pull the money out of her relatively slim freshman budget. If she manages to get a district office, it will probably be in Germantown.

Her press officer, Joseph Corrigan, said in an email that the office location will depend heavily on Bass' budget.

After the Q&A, Lambert said she feels strongly that one needs to be physically in a district in order to understand it. Also, residents need easy access to their local politicians in the name of transparency.

“People are reluctant to go into town to their councilperson’s office,” Lambert said. “If they have something in the neighborhood, they’re more likely to go in, get acquainted, and feel more comfortable and connected to what the councilperson does.”

Bass said during her campaign that she would have an office in the district. The current Councilwoman, Donna Reed Miller, doesn't have one here.
