Burglary Prevention Tips From 14th District

An Philadelphia police officer at the 14th District shares tips to prevent burglaries.

Officers at the 14th District are aware that there have been a good amount of burglaries in Chestnut Hill recently. Officer Thomas Seymour wanted to get the word out on some things homeowners can do to reduce the chance of burglary.

"Keep the garage closed, and keep ladders put away. Ladders are an easy source to get into the second floor," Seymour said.

He added that residents don't always use their alarm systems or leave lights on, both both are preventative actions. Leaving lights on both inside an out can help keep burglars at bay.

"If it's dark out, you wouldn't notice someone out there unless they were coming with a trumpet, but if you have lights on, maybe a neighbor is outside and might see something," Seymour said.

The officer added that, while mostly these are common sense actions, that they aren't always on residents' minds as they are rushing out the door.
