Moms Eat Local: Drake's Gourmet Foods & Catering

Find out how kid-friendly Drake's Gourmet Foods & Catering is.

Moms know how tough it can be to eat out with little ones. Patch wants to help you know before you walk in the door if Drake’s Gourmet Foods & Catering is a good place to eat with your children.  For a full review of Drake’s check back on Thursday.

Restaurant , 8419 Germantown Avenue

Is there a kids’ menu? While Drake’s does not have an official kids’ menu, their takeout menu boasts a plethora of kid-friendly choices.  Their mashed potatoes are sure to be a hit—my kids loved them paired with their beef stew.  The turkey tetrazzini was equally popular with my crew.  The day I was there they had cold and to-be-served hot pasta options.  Broccoli was prepared au gratin—sure to have your kids going for seconds. They have numerous soups (some frozen) and even an assortment of tea sandwiches, and yes they are crust free. Oh, did I mention that for those who eat their veggies, they have a great selection of cookies too!

Are there healthy options on the kids’ meal? Yes, plenty—roasted vegetables, fish, salads, chicken salad, many of the soups.

How does the restaurant deal with food allergies? Drake’s serves prepared food ready for takeout.  They also provide full catering service.  They have such a great diversity of foods that I am sure that you will find an option that suits your dietary restriction or preference.  The chef is on hand to answer ingredient questions and can confirm if an allergen is present in one of their prepared foods.  As for the catering end of their business I am certain that they can accommodate all requests.

Is the restaurant so quiet that any childish outburst will draw attention or is there enough noise that a small cry is likely to go unnoticed? Drake’s is a takeout operation.  The do, however, have a lovely outdoor garden seating arrangement where your children are welcome and there is even a tiny bit of room for them to burn off the sugar rush they get from Drake’s cookies after lunch. Note Drake’s is open Tuesday-Friday 10:00 am to 6:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
