Bredenbeck's Wins Small Business Award

The bakery was honored for being a family-owned business.

excitedly announced on Facebook Wednesday that they had received an award from the United States Small Business Administration.

“We're the proud recipients of the U.S. Small Business Administration's 2012 Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year Award!” the post said.

The award was given to Karen H. Boyde Rohde, the owner of Bredenbeck’s. In a press release that announced the awards, the SBA described the Chestnut Hill bakery as “a Bakery and Ice Cream Parlor operating since 1889. Family proprietorship began in 1954 with the current owner’s grandfather and father.”

The awards will be distributed at a luncheon and ceremony June 7, as part of the “SBA Day at the Ballpark.” Members and award recipients will take in a Phillies game after the ceremony. For the full list of small business awards in the Philadelphia area, see the press release here.
