Bredenbeck's Keeping Family Tradition Alive- With Cookies

Bredenbeck's owner brings her own holiday traditions to the counter at her bakery.

In some households, Springerle, Filbert Bars, Cinnamon Stars and Pfeffernusse are holiday traditions.

But in many others, these German treats have never been heard of. Because of a time consuming baking process and expensive ingredients, these cookies and pastries are rarely sold by bakeries.

But owner Karen Boyde Rohde keeps the tradition alive by making these treats and shipping them all over the country.

Rohde shared a blog post about how making these cookies reminds her of her family's traditions having these treats around for Christmas.

"The process of making and shipping fresh cookies and treats is time-consuming, which is why a lot of bakeries don’t do it. But I continue to make them out of tradition and love. It’s my way of saying, 'Hey Dad, hey Pop-Pop: this is the legacy I’m going to leave,'" Rohde wrote.
