Home and Garden Festival: Some Things to Know

There will be no free lot parking, but there will be Freecycling.

Sunday will bring another one of Chestnut Hill's annual Home and Garden Festivals, complete with displays, food, ballons, yoga for children, face painting and more.

The Festival

The Home and Garden Festival is Sunday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Germantown Avenue. The Avenue will be closed to traffic through most of Chestnut Hill for the day. (Stenton Avenue and Ardleigh Street are easy alternatives.)

Weather

As of Friday morning, the National Weather Service was predicting just about perfect weather for the festival: mostly sunny with a high of 74 degrees. (Just in case, though, the festival has a rain date of May 20 set.)

Freecycling

One addition to the festivals of the past is an Eco-Alley, which is sponsored by Green in Chestnut Hill (GRinCH). The alley will have displays from eco-friendly vendors, and a Freecycling event.

Freecycling is "like a yard sale where everything is free," according to the GRinCH blog, and this year's event will be full of books, CDs and DVDs that are totally up for grabs.

If residents want to rid their storage areas of old media to be freecycled, can bring their materials to the Chestnut Hill branch of Friday or Saturday, May 4 and 5.

Parking

The Chestnut Hill Parking Foundation parking lots announced that payment would be enforced at lots starting May 1, just in time for the Home and Garden Festival. The foundation, however, is not without compromise.

On the day of the festival, guests and residents can park in select CHPF lots all day for $5.
