A Rainy Groundbreaking for the Meetinghouse

A big crowd came out despite the downpour for Tuesday's event at Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting.

The 80-year-old meetinghouse on East Mermaid Lane was packed with guests wall to wall Tuesday morning for a groundbreaking that was originally set to be outdoors.

Chestnut Hill Friends is now officially constructing a , ceremonially marked by Tuesday's event.

Due to the pouring rain, the speeches were moved inside, but tradition called for the breaking of actual ground. The attendees moved outside for the photo opportunity. Here's one of any pictures from Tuesday's groundbreaking. Check back with Chestnut Hill Patch for more coverage of the event later today.
