Map Tracks Crime on SEPTA Regional Rail Lines

See which SEPTA Regional Rail Stations have the highest instances of violent crime occur near them in the city.

A new map tracks violent crimes near SEPTA regional rail stations throughout the city of Philadelphia including those stations on the Chestnut Hill East and Chestnut Hill West Line.

The map shows which stations have the highest instances of violent crime in a one block radius from the station.

Violent crimes include homicides, robberies, assaults and rapes.  The map uses crime data from 2007 through Oct. 2013.

The highest instances of crime near SEPTA stations have occurred in North Philadelphia, but also near Suburban Station and Market East Station in Center City.

On the Chestnut Hill East line, the Germantown and Wayne Junction Stations have had the most violent crime occur near it with 63 and 62 instances since 2007, respectively.

On the Chestnut Hill West Line, Chelten Avenue Station has the highest instances of violent crime nearby with 49.

It should also be noted that the map does not say whether or not the crimes were perpetrated against SEPTA passengers, only that these incidents happened near SEPTA stations.

For stations in Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill the crime numbers are as follows:

Chestnut Hill East: Washington Lane: 19, Stenton: 20, Sedgwick: 16, Mt. Airy: 5, Wyndmoor: 7, Gravers: 2, Chestnut Hill East: 2

Chestnut Hill West: Upsal: 15, Carpenter: 6, Allens Lane: 29, St. Martins: 3, Chestnut Hill West: 26
