ReplyWhat benefit do we, the alcohol consumers of Pennsylvania, stand to gain from privatization? To anyone who thinks they'll save $, go visit NJ, MD, VA (listing only states I've visited) and you will see that Pennsylvania's buying power gets us some good prices. Delaware is the ONLY place I've ever been with lower alcohol prices than PA.

All racist undertones aside, you do have a valid point. Norristown should celebrate the other cultures representative of the melting pot that we proudly call home. We should celebrate the Irish, Italian, Mexican, and other immigrants who have made positive contributions to the community, much in the same manner that we are celebrating and recognizing the contributions that Lawrence "Jock" Livers Sr has made.

Awesome concept, though I feel the funds would be better suited to buying supplies vs paying "volunteers." I do agree with jxjipper that "If you really want to help, find retirees, disabled whose house has gotten away from them due to age or infirmity" and hope this project doesn't turn into free labor for slumlords.
I also feel that the first projects worked on should be ones that benefit the most people vs projects where individuals are the largest beneficiary. My wife and I hope to someday open our own restaurant in Norristown and had planned on creating a trust that would fund initiatives such as feeding the hungry, cleaning parks, preserving architectural gems, etc.
While technically being born in Norristown, I didn't move here until 7 years ago. I started off as a renter (meeting my wife soon after). I was well aware of Norristown's reputation and it was only because of a job change that I moved here. In those 7 years, I learned that the outside reputation was very unfounded, fell in love with the town and this past summer my wife and I bought our very first home and we aren't going anywhere.
Kudos to Ashe and count us in as unpaid volunteers as our schedules allow.
