You can now find out if your SEPTA train is on time with a phone call, text or website.
Two new sites will help commuters determine if their SEPTA train is one time or not. Baldwin is a website optimized for a smartphone. It’s not an app that you download. Bookmark on your phone so you don’t forget it when you need it. All you need to do is put in the station where you want to get on and where you want to get off and it will tell you the next trains going between those stations, their departure and arrival time and whether they are on time. The website URL is baldwin.ph. Note: if you’re going to or from Wayne in Radnor Township, choose Wayne Station, not Wayne Jct. SEPTAlking provides regional rail status updates with a phone call or text message at 215-987-5418. Both sites are part of SEPTA’s outreach campaign and will be …

“Sorry doesn’t even begin to cover it” according to SEPTA.
SEPTA issued a release on its website Tuesday apologizing for multiple issues Monday that led to major delays. The first issue of the day was on the Warminster line, according to SEPTA, which has been in the process of being updated for the last six months. “At 1:10 p.m. old supporting hardware holding up new wire decided to give up the ghost resulting in no train service for about 2.5 hours,” SEPTA reported. Then, at 4:25 p.m., a bad car short circuited, according to SEPTA. “This set off a wave of delays for some 87 trains lasting anywhere from 40 minutes to just over 1 hour. The worst of this situation were the 4 trains - the 4:25 p.m. to the Airport, the 4:36 p.m. going to Chestnut Hill West, the 4:22 p.m. going to Wilmington, and 4:29 …

Jay Z and Pearl Jam festival on Ben Franklin Parkway set for Sept. 1-2.
Now that Hurricane Issac shouldn't be a problem this weekend, Philadelphia readies itself for the Made in America Festival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Although the event will occur downtown, its impact will be felt in Northwest Philadelphia during the Sept. 1-2 festival, which features Jay Z and Pearl Jam leading a cast of artists. SEPTA announced bus detours and increased regional rail activity throughout the weekend. Buses will reroute because of parkway closures. Impacted lines include: Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, and 48. Please go to System Status for complete details. In addition, regional rails will run at a greater rate than a typical weekend. Access to Suburban Station makes most sense for riders looking to attend the festival…

Bathrooms are especially important on longer routes, like the Paoli-Thorndale line, according to the DVARP.
The Delaware Valley Association of Rail Passengers is hoping to influence SEPTA's next train purchase. The group has launched a petition aimed at adding bathrooms and trash cans to the next set of trains suburban commuters will be riding on. "Bathrooms and trash cans are an especially good idea for long train routes," Andy Sharpe, the DVARP communications director, said in an email. Riders can find more information and sign the petition here. It reads, in part: How many times have you really had to go the bathroom, but realized you had an hour train ride ahead of you? Or, do you get tired of seeing all the trash on trains that riders leave behind. Sign this petition if you'd like to see SEPTA include bathrooms and trash receptacles on the …
