Multiple media outlets reporting Schwartz has filed to run in 2014 on Monday.
We've been hearing the rumors for months, but it is finally official. U.S. Rep. Alyson Schwartz filed paperwork today to run for governor in 2014. According to philly.com, Schwartz said she hopes to beat out current Gov. Tom Corbett and his “failed leadership” that "has crippled the Pennsylvania economy in a competitive world." “He’s just missing in action most of the time,” Schwartz, of Montgomery County, said in an interview with philly.com. Could privatizing the lottery mean fewer people will play?
Pennsylvanians do not want their lottery to be privatized, as Gov. Tom Corbett is proposing, according to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll. The poll found that 47 percent of those polled strongly opposed the privatization with 17 somewhat opposing it. Only 7 percent were strongly in favor with 11 percent being somewhat in favor of the move. Most people polled, 75 percent, said they would play the lottery about the same amount as they do now if it were privatized, but a not insignificant number of people, 19 said they would play less frequently. The Franklin & Marshall College Poll interviewed 622 Pennsylvania voters between January 29 and February 3. The margin of error is reported as plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. A recent …

Gov. Tom Corbett will announce plans to privatize Pennsylvania's state store system
The big issue of whether to privatize Pennsylvania's liquor stores will take center stage today as Gov. Tom Corbett announces plans to sell them off. Corbett will call for liquor store licenses to be auctioned off, according to multiple sources. Sales of beer and wine could be opened up to various retailers including drug stores and big-box department stores. Tuesday's deadline pushed back due to Hurricane Sandy.
Congratulations, there is a silver lining. Hurricane Sandy has pushed back the clocks, at least when it comes to the state's absentee voters. According to reports on philly.com, Gov. Tom Corbett has extended the deadline for Pennsylvania's absentee voters to get in their votes. Originally set for 5 p.m. Tuesday, the new timed deadline is now pushed back to Thursday at 5 p.m. Corbett gave voters each day back that the county offices were closed due to Hurricane Sandy. In order to file for an absentee vote, a voter must show up in person at the county's election offices. Those in Montgomery County should visit the County Courthouse in Norristown. Lawmakers discuss vote.
Restoring $500 million to the proposed state budget, the Pennsylvania State Senate approved a $27.6 billion state budget in a 39-8 vote Wednesday. The Republican-penned bill restored funding to basic and higher education, human services programs, hospitals, nursing homes and services for individuals with disabilities—winning the approval of many Democrats, as well.
