Man Who Allegedly Ran Down Cop Has Hearing Postponed

Kareem Alleyne was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

A man who was arrested and charged in connection with running down a police officer with his car and killing him has had an arraignment hearing postponed until October. The hearing was scheduled for Wednesday but was postponed for a couple of months. Police said Kareem Alleyne hit Officer Marc Brady with his car while Brady was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Musgrave Street and East Meehan Avenue at 11:31 p.m. on July 15. Brady was assigned to the 22nd district in North Philadelphia, but was off duty when the incident occurred. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center and pronounced dead soon afterward. Funeral Held Friday For Officer Killed By Car

Officer Marc Brady was hit and killed by a car Sunday. The details of his funeral arrangement have been made.

The funeral for Officer Mark Brady, who was hit and killed by a car Sunday, will be held July 20. Brady, 32, was off-duty July 15 when a car struck him head-on while he was riding his bicycle at Musgrave Street and East Meehan Avenue. He died later at Albert Einstein Medical Center around 12:05 a.m. Monday morning. The driver, Kareem Alleyne, 35, is being charged with vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter. Brady served North Philadelphia's 22nd district. The funeral will be held at Pentecostal Bridegroom Temple, located at 6425 Wister Street, at 11 a.m. There will be a viewing at 9 a.m. Following the service, Interment will be held at Forrest Hill Cemetery, 101 Byberry Road.

Here's 14th Police District news from the past week or two. All of the following allegations have been documented according to information provided by police. There have been seven incidents of items stolen from cars. Theft from vehicle: There was $15 taken from a parked car on the 400 block of West Durham Street. Stolen drivers manual: An Ins card and the drivers manual were taken from a parked car on the 7000 block of Ardleigh Street. Stolen GPS: A Garmin GPS system was missing -- and the door was ajar -- of a car parked overnight on the 6900 block of Greene Street. Computer stolen from car: An HP laptop computer was stolen from a car parked on the 100 block of Carpenter Lane. An unknown person broke into the car's passanger side window…

Police Fly Flags at Half-Staff for Fallen Officers

The 5th District Police headquarters honored two deceased officers.

Following the deaths of two Philadelphia Police officers over the past week, district headquarters are flying flags at half-mast throughout the city. On July 8, Highway Patrol Officer Brian Lorenzo died after getting hit while riding his motorcycle on I-95 after finishing his shift. The 22-year veteran officer was laid to rest Friday. John Leck Jr. is charged with third-degree murder, vehicular homicide while DUI, involuntary manslaughter and other offenses for the death. Man Charged in Off-Duty Cop's Death

Police confirm that officer Marc Brady's death was a murder. Brady struck by a car while off duty on a bicycle in East Mt. Airy. He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Germantown High Student Charged With Rape in Incident

The student was arrested Tuesday and will be treated as a juvenile.

A Germantown High School student was charged with five felonies in connection with a sexual assault that police said took place at the school Friday morning. Police said the alleged incident—which they are classifying as a rape—took place near the school's basement. The student, who is a teenager, came into the Special Victims Unit Tuesday morning with a family member to turn himself in. Police Capt. John Darby said the five felonies included rape, aggravated indecent assault, unlawful restraint, sexual assault and false imprisonment. He was also charged with four misdemeanors, including indecent exposure, indecent assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
