They are being organized by the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers.
Teachers are protesting upcoming education cuts at schools around Philadelphia Friday morning. There have been protests at C.W. Henry School, as well as at Anna L. Lingelbach School and at others. They are all part of a Philadelphia Federation of Teachers effort to bring attention to what the union sees as a misguided plan to close 40 schools by next year. "For Sale," read flyers passed out by teachers picketing Friday morning. "Your Child's Education to the Highest Bidder." The school district, meanwhile, says the plan is necessary to reduce costs. The union is now encouraging parents to attend upcoming budget meetings—there's going to be one at Girls High on May 24 at 6 p.m.—to discuss their feelings toward the issue.
