There are a slew of events planned at the store throughout the day.
Visiting the local, independently owned record store might seem like a plot point in a story your dad would tell you. They seem like relics from a bygone era. But this isn’t the truth in Chestnut Hill. No, Chestnut Hill has its own record store—Hideaway Music. And Saturday is a big day. Across the country, record stores will be celebrating the aptly named “National Record Store Day.” It’s an opportunity for “Mom and Pop” shops like Hideaway to celebrate the independent spirit of the stores and the music itself. Hideaway will have several events going on throughout the day to celebrate. Starting at 10 a.m., the store will have several exclusive limited edition vinyl records for sale from artists ranging from Phish to the White Stripes. …

The Chestnut Hill music store manages to thrive selling nostalgia.
Ten years ago, Brian Reisman decided to open a record store with his son Sean. Music had always been a passion of Reisman’s, and he saw it as a good business opportunity. “Chestnut Hill didn’t have a music store,” Reisman said. “They said the same thing now about a bookstore that they said then about a record store. ‘How come Chestnut Hill doesn’t have a bookstore? How come Chestnut Hill didn’t have a record store?’” So, Reisman opened Hideaway Music. He turned his passion into an opportunity. “If I had been aware of iPods at the time, I don’t know if I would have opened the store,” Reisman said. “We opened right before the bottom fell out.” That bottom was the massive cultural shift from purchasing compact discs to buying everything …

Hideaway Music will be pulling out the stops for its third annual Record Store Day.
Walking into Hideaway Music is always an exciting prospect for any music lover and vinylphile. But on this Saturday, April 21, there will be an extra air of prospect for the intense collectors and passive appreciators alike. Saturday is Record Store Day, a now-annual event that celebrates the independent peddlers of the revived music medium. “It started as a celebration of the independent record stores, but it started growing, and now they are getting artists and labels and distributors to put out special limited edition items, stuff you can’t get the rest of the year, “ said Brian Reisman, owner of Hideaway. “Things like a red vinyl 45 of a Dylan release, designated just for this day.” If that sounds like something worth lining up for, …

John Wesley Harding will perform a solo acoustic set at Hideaway Music on October 30th. The performance marks the first of several that Hideaway plans to host every week through December.
For Hideaway Music’s first show of their new Sundays Live concert series, store owner Brian Reisman is pulling out all of the stops. The longtime Chestnut Hill dealer of vinyl and vintage audio equipment has invited none other than British transplant and current Mount Airy resident, Wesley Stace, to perform an intimate acoustic set at the store. Stace, better known by his stage name, John Wesley Harding, has been a regular at Reisman’s shop for quite some time now. “We originally met because he’s a customer,” Reisman said regarding how the collaboration came together. “He collects vinyl. He bought a jukebox and came in here to stock up on 45’s. He’s got a new CD and some pretty impressive credentials. It should be a lot of fun.” Stace…

John Wesley Harding was a delight to watch at Hide-Away Music. The place was packed. He played inside the shopfront as if he was used to it and was nonplussed even when little Wolf-masked kids came in during a number looking for candy!   more ›
