Valentine's Day has arrived in Mt. Airy, albeit a little late. The Mt. Airy Bussiness Association is having another of its monthly neighborhood parties, Finally Friday, on, you guessed it, Friday, and a lot is going down. There will be music, deals and more.
The new Business Association of Mt. Airy's Final-ly Friday series is having its second installation this Friday night to kick of Memorial Day Weekend. Mt. Airy USA, which runs the business association, has put out information about what people can expect this time around. The first Final-ly Friday happened last month. Events begin at 5 p.m. and continue throughout the night. Here's some of what's going to be on tap: A variety of other shops and businesses will also be offering up deals throughout the evening. Businesses along Germantown Avenue now host their biggest nights on the last Friday of the month instead of the first.
A soulful acoustic duo looked pleasantly surprised Friday as a group of drummers in traditional African garb joined them in an impromptu jam session outside Food For All Market during the first “Final-ly Friday.” “I was talking with somebody, and when I came up they were already playing,” said Baba Tyrone, who directs Baba Got It African Dance and Drum Ensemble. “They’ve learned rhythm. So when someone’s playing, they know where to go.” Final-ly Friday, which will be held on the last Friday of every month, replaced First Friday to distinguish Mt. Airy’s festivities from those in nearby neighborhoods. Business owners said it was too soon to tell if the switch will affect foot traffic, but they expect more people to come out as the weather …

First Friday is over in Mt. Airy. It has, instead, been replaced by "Final-ly Friday," a neighborhood effort that will encourage people to support area businesses, look at art and generally be out and about in Mt. Airy on the last Friday of each month. The newly formed Business Association of Mt. Airy's Promotions Committee unanimously voted to turn First Friday into Final Friday. Mt. Airy USA Director of Commercial Corridor Revitalization Elizabeth Moselle said the organization, which is being administered by Mt. Airy USA, wanted to distinguish its Friday efforts from those in a place like Old City, for example (which has always celebrated First Friday). Local artists will participate in the event, and Moselle said artists from outside …
