Your Trash Hauler Won’t Take Your TV, Computer

Certain electronics can now no longer be disposed of in landfills. Find out where to get rid of them.

Your trash company won't haul away your TV or computer equipment anymore. Pennsylvania will no longer allow desktop or laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals or television sets to be disposed of in landfills and incinerators. This is the last major step in the Covered Device Recycling Act of 2010. The state law, the beginning of which took effect in 2012, mandates that manufacturers that sell electronics in Pennsylvania establish programs to recycle these electronics without charging the consumers an extra fee.           “Municipal waste trucks will no longer be collecting these devices for disposal at landfills, so our customers need to get ready for this change. Electronics Recycling at GJC Raises $2,700

The money was donated to the Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network.

An electronics recycling event at Germantown Jewish Centre a couple of Sundays ago was a success, according to its organizers. Coleman Poses, who was around for the duration of the event, said there was a constant flow of people bringing items there. "There were a few times when it ebbed a little bit," he said. "For the most part, it was pretty consistent." There were lots of computers at the gathering. Several boxes of laptops, standalone monitors and so on were put together inside the synagogue. A lot of smaller items, meanwhile, ended up going into a pile of miscellaneous things. The event lasted four hours. By 3 p.m., Poses said, it was pretty much over. But people didn't generally have to wait longer than a minute in line to drop off …

March 25: Electronics Recycling, Kids' Stuff Giveaway at GJC

Donations to the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Northwest Philadelphia will be accepted.

Germantown Jewish Centre is hosting an electronics recycling event March 25 that will allow people to get rid of items like computers, televisions and cell phones. According to a news release, the equipment is dismantled and recycled by a licensed and permitted electronics recycling company. No equipment will be placed in a landfill or exported. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 25 at the synagogue. It's free, but donations of $5 to $20 to support the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Northwest Philadelphia will be accepted. The synagogue will also have its annual Kids' Stuff Giveaway during that same time. Items are free with a suggested $20 donation to the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Northwest Philadelphia. …
