An 18-year-old girl attacked Olivia Nutter at a track meet last Thursday.
An 18-year-old woman has been accused of assaulting Mayor Michael Nutter’s daughter, Olivia, at a track meet in East Mt. Airy on Thursday, April 18. The assault occurred at 5:44 p.m., at the Morris E. Leeds Middle School located in the 1100 block of East Mount Pleasant Ave., police said. Court documents said the teen punched Mayor Nutter’s daughter in the head and pulled her hair. The female then fled the scene and was arrested on Monday near the 5900 block of North Broad Street, police said. She faces misdemeanor charges for simple assault and reckless endangerment, according to court documents. Nutter’s daughter is a senior at the Julia R. Masterman Middle and High School. An East Mt. Airy teen is shot outside his home late Monday night.
A 16-year-old Mt. Airy boy was shot twice in the chest outside of his home on Montana Street late Monday evening, Philadelphia Police say. The shooting occured in the unit block of Montana Street at approximately 10:45 p.m., police say. After the shooting, police say the boy was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was listed as in critical condition. Police are still investigating the incident and asking anyone with information to please come forward. This is the second Mt. Airy teen shot this week. Two juveniles were charged with the shooting on the 400 block of East Washington Lane.

A new expansion could be coming for Wissahickon Charter School.
Though its still several steps away, Wissahickon Charter School could expand to a second campus near the Washington Lane train station as early as 2014. In a presentation made to the East Mt. Airy Neighbors board of directors on Tuesday, Mt. Airy USA executive director Anuj Gupta outlined how a land deal between the charter school and the Mt. Airy group could help the school expand into East Mt. Airy. "Wissahickon Charter School has had a very successful model," he said. "They have a 96 percent attendance rate, almost no teacher turnover, steadily increasing scores on their PSSAs. Pleasant Playground is finally about to get its upgrade. According to a release from councilwoman Cindy Bass, the Pleasant Playground Recreation Center is scheduled to break ground this Friday. The $2.8 million rec center is part of an ongoing renovation of Pleasant Playground that has been going on since 2011. "Pleasant Playground is a playground that for years has been trying to expand," Eman board member Derek Green told Patch in 2011. The new recreation center will replace the existing structure and will include two activity rooms, a multipurpose room, staff kitchen, restrooms, and office.
