A second incident of copper theft has been reported in the Northwest, according to a release from the Philadelphia Police Department. According to reports, a realtor for a property on the 100 block of E Walnut Lane told police that 40 feet of copper pipes had been taken out of the property's basement sometime in the past few weeks. The stolen piping is estimated to be valued at nearly $700. The home, which is vacant and for sale, does not have an alarm system in place. Police processed the house but did not find any evidence of forced entry or break in. The pipes have since been replaced. Another incident of copper theft has been reporting in the Northwest, according to a release from the Philadelphia Police Department. According to reports, a resident told police that sometime between Dec 7 and Dec 12, an unknown person broke the lock off of his trailer located near 7600 Germantown Avenue and stole various copper piping, tubing and fittings. The resident said that he was the owner of a local construction company and the stolen items were to be used in coming projects. The estimated value of all the stolen copper is approximately $5,200. An incident of copper theft occurred at a Mt. Airy bank, according to a release from the Philadelphia Police Department. According to reports, this latest incident of copper theft in the Mt. Airy-Chestnut Hill area took place at the Bank of America on Chew Avenue on October 2. Police say a witness saw an unknown person force entry into the front door and take some copper pipe estimated to be worth $400. This incident is the latest in a series of copper thefts reported in the fall, including an incident in which over $10,000 of copper was reported stolen. Police are investigating the incidents.
