College students looking to get a leg-up in politics (or maybe just ask Mayor Michael Nutter about "Rappers Delight") have a chance to work with the mayor's office this coming summer. The city is now accepting applications for its Mayor's Internship Program, a 10-week program that runs from June to August in which students will work on projects along side city officials. From the program's website: During their tenure, Mayor’s Interns are assigned substantive projects and tasks providing research, administrative, and staff assistance to City officials in various departments across the City of Philadelphia municipal government. A city-wide rally at City Hall Wednesday showed support for public educations. The rally was organized by Protect Public Education, a coalition that is working to fight for funding in Philadelphia's schools in the wake of cuts proposed by Gov. Tom Corbett. A variety of people came to the rally on a bus that left from Henry Houston School in Mt. Airy. Others arrived on their own, and several people who have sent their children to Northwest public schools or who attend them got up to speak at the rally. One of those people was Kevin Peter, a parent of a former C.W. Henry School student who helped organize a similar rally in Northwest Philadelphia on Sunday.
