Breakfast, Lunch and a Cozy Atmosphere at Private Plates by Perry Cafe

The new restaurant opened last week.

Perry Shaw's been working toward opening his own restaurant for the past seven years. The chef was then in culinary school at the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College, learning to become a pastry chef. Soon afterward, he got a job at Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center in Blue Bell, making bread, croissants and other similar items. He was doing that until the chef was out one day. Even though business has slowed down in the weeks since, and Eisenstein is preparing to announce reduced winter hours, The Cedars House calendar will still contain regular activities for year-round runners and fitness …

Owner Robert Wheeler hopes to be the first of many upscale, new businesses coming to the lower end of the Avenue.

For five years, Robert Wheeler watched campaign offices and other temporary endeavors come and go from the storefront space at Germantown Avenue and Pelham Road. In April, he stopped in to look at the space and pitched his proposal to the property owner. Six months later, Wired Beans Café opened at 6734 Germantown Ave. "I wanted good food, good coffee," Wheeler said. Wheeler knew for years he wanted to open a café, and as soon as he set foot in the space, even with though it was functioning at the time as a campaign space, he saw his store forming. "I walk into a place and I always see it for what I want it to be, not what it is," he said. What Wheeler wanted was an upscale café for with "something with substance" when it came to the …
