Independent We Stand, a national organization to support local businesses, honors the Trolley Car Diner.
The Trolley Car Diner is one of six nation-wide semifinalists in Independent We Stand’s 2012 Independent Small Business of the Year (“The Indie”) Award. Independent We Stand (sponsored by Stihl), a country-wide coalition of consumers and locally-owned businesses promoting the social and economic benefits of buying local, looks to award independent businesses that go the extra mile for their customers or provide help to the community. Trolley Car Diner is featured alongside businesses in Virginia, North Carolina, California, Michigan, and Florida. Independent We Stand cites Trolley Car Diner for its weekly donations to local organizations, help with community service projects and events, and its habit of purchasing locally grown produce. …

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy is one of four schools in Pennsylvania nominated for the U.S. Department of Education‘s Green Ribbon Schools award.
Update April 24, 2012: Springside Chestnut Hill Academy found out Monday that it had been awarded the Green Ribbon School award. The school was honored along with 77 other schools from across the country for being the first-ever U.S. Department of Education (DOE) Green Ribbon Schools. At a Washington, D.C. celebration, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said the 78 schools given the award were chosen based on a spectrum of qualifications, including impact of environment on student achievement, cost reduction, student engagement, benefits to the community.
