Community Members Working to Ensure New Festival Doesn't Have Negative Impact

A meeting was held at Councilwoman Cindy Bass' office Friday.

Councilwoman Cindy Bass met with art expo organizer Mercer Redcross last week to try and hash out a plan that would keep a new festival he's organizing from disrupting the neighborhood. Bass met with Redcross, as well as with representatives from some of the major Mt. Airy organizations—like Mt. Airy USA, West Mt. Airy Neighbors and East Mt. Airy Neighbors—on Friday. Bass spokesman Joseph Corrigan said Monday the meeting was held so that Redcross' new festival, the "Artsy Grove Festival," can be held with in an area behind the Sedgwick Theater without affecting businesses and other neighbors nearby. The festival is scheduled for June 15-17. "They tried to develop some new plans for the event so there's minimal disruption," Corrigan said. …

That 3-day art expo was atrocious. Not the crafts or the art/jewelry, but the ppl staying in the tents overnight. They had no respect for the ppl residing along that stretch. The City Noise Ordinance says no unruly noise btw 11p and 7a, which, unfortunately, they did not adhere to. Mercer Redcross Bringing New Festival to Neighborhood

The event will take place in June.

October Gallery's Mercer Redcross is bringing a new festival to the neighborhood this summer, according to Newsworks—one that won't close down Germantown Avenue for three straight days. According to the article, the Artsy Grove Festival will be held in the back lots behind the 7100 block of Germantown Avenue (which is also behind where October Gallery has lots of its events, at 7165 Germantown Ave.). Vendor tables will be set up in that area, and bands will perform throughout the event, which will be on June 15, 16 and 17. A previous event organized by Redcross—an art expo on Germantown Avenue in October—closed down the Avenue for three days and sparked fury among business owners.
