Weavers Way, Music and Composting This Weekend in Chestnut Hill

Weavers Way will have its 40th birthday party this Sunday, and First Presbyterian of Germantown will host a music program for kids on Saturday.

Here's what's going on this weekend in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy.

Good Mornin' MusicGood Mornin' Music! (GMM!) is a weekly, Saturday morning program at First Presbyterian Church of Germantown, 35 W Chelten Ave., starting at 9:45 a.m. that gives both boys and girls from Pre K to Grade 2 the opportunity to joyfully discover and explore music making with their voices as well as with classroom percussion instruments. GMM! is a non-performance based experience that focuses on musical journey rather than destination. At the same time, the program, in a way that is both fun and pedagogically-sound, lays the foundation for future CY performance-based choral opportunities should a child wish to pursue them.

GMM! offers a wide variety of singing, moving and playing activities that will keep children engaged for a 45-minute period. GMM! Music Director Mary Comtois is a certified, experienced music educator who specializes in early childhood music education.

Composting: Taught by Lucy Dinsmore, Rosarian, Morris Arboretum
This class will demonstrate the how’s and why’s of making compost and compost tea for your home garden. We will start by exploring the variety of materials available to compost and the methods used for building bins and storing these materials at home. We will build a compost pile together, so that you can easily replicate it at home. We will also demystify the idea of “compost tea” by exploring the equipment used at the Morris Arboretum and demonstrating the brewing process. Participation in handling the compost materials is optional, so dress accordingly if you plan to get messy. This course meets at the Horticulture Center at Bloomfield Farm. Enter the Arboretum on the road opposite from the public garden entrance. Park in the parking lot and follow the signs to the Horticulture Center.
