Italian Market Festival is This Weekend

The event will be held this weekend on 9th Street in Philadelphia. It will feature more than 100 food vendors and live entertainment.

If you like Italian food, then mark your calendar for this weekend, when the Italian Market Festival will be held on 9th Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to the event listing on Patch, the event will be held both days and will feature more than 100 food vendors and live entertainment.

"It’s an extravaganza for the senses — streets lined with vendors offering every Italian delicacy possible, live entertainment, fun contests and more," the event website says.

Here are some festival highlights, new this year: 

The first ever photo essay book published by the S. 9th Street Business Association. The book is a compilation of pictures of the Market through Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Dave Lakotas, the photographer will be signing books which can be found at the Visitor Center at 919 S. 9th Street.

Also new this year Saint Mary Magdalen dePazzi Church located at 712 Montrose Street will be open for historic tours. This church and parish is the first Italian Catholic Parish in the United States. The Church is a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Landmark.

Two new businesses will be taking part: Cardenas Oil and Vinegar Tap Room and Torero Tapas Bar, located next to each other.The Tap Room will be featuring oils and vinegars from all over the world, Torero will present a variety of Spanish flair tapas plates and paella. A one and only time happening, DiBruno Brothers will be celebrating in DiBruno Brothers style its 75th Anniversary on the Piazza at 9th & Montrose Street. Featuring a throw back interactive area with food and games.
