Harry Potter FestivalThe annual Harry Potter Festival in Chestnut Hill kicks off Friday at 5:30 p.m. with events going through the evening and continuing Friday.  For a complete lineup of what is happening where: please click here.

Whispers Along the WissahickonJoin the Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) on Friday, October 18, 2013, as they celebrate the tenth anniversary of Whispers Along the Wissahickon, the popular fall celebration that has become a fall tradition for many Philadelphia families. A variety of activities will be offered: hay rides, face painting, live music, a large bon-fire, and more. The event will be held at the Wissahickon Environmental Center, at 300 Northwestern Avenue (19118) from 5:30 to 9 p.m. A casual dinner, beer, wine, and other beverages will be served. 

Free ConcertThere will be a free concert  on Friday, October 18, 7 p.m., at the Mt. Airy Train Station, 7423 Devon St., (at Gowen).  Here's how organizers describe the concert: "Sonic Liberation Front is a big band- 11 members - playing free Jazz, reminischent of Su Ra Arkestra, with a Lukumi (Afro-Cuban) twist, and we're delighted they're willing to come play for us. They've played at the Painted Bride, The Forum, the Jazz Clef Club, and at clubs in New York and have released 5 albums, the most recent of which got rave reviews in Downbeat ! Check them out and hear some of their tracks at http://sonicliberationfront.com/epk-body/.  The concert is outdoors - bring a lawn chair or blanket, a picnic, your jazz friends and neighbors. Geology HikeThe Friends of the Wissahickon will host a geology hike on  Saturday, October 19, at 3 p.m. starting at Valley Green Inn.  Distance: 1.5 miles along a rough, steep trail on the east side of the creek upstream from Valley Green. It can be slippery or muddy in places. This hike is suitable for children over ten accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring water and wear sturdy footwear. Duration: 1.75 hours.
