Weekend Planner: Fall Festival and More

Morris Arboretum Fall Festival

Where/When: , 100 E. Northwestern Ave, Sunday from 10am-3pm (gates open at 9am)

Why Go: This afternoon of autumn fun that has become an annual tradition for many families. Make your own scarecrow - starting at 10:00am (hay, frame and clothes on-site), paint a pumpkin, and sample different varieties of apples from Weavers Way Co-op. New this year the Philadelphia Zoo will present their Zoo on Wheels program Born in the USA. Come learn how our native animals spend their fall preparing for the coming winter.

Treehouse Rock! Children’s Concert Series with Music Monkey Jungle

Where/When: , 10 W. Gravers Lane; Saturday evening from 6-6:45pm with dinner seating either before or after the show.

Why Go: Music Monkey Jungle is music and movement education for little music monkeys and the primates who love them. They specialize in fun, original, educational lyrics and have been a Nickelodeon’s Parents Choice Award nominee in 2009 and 2010 for Best Children’s Birthday Party Entertainment in the Philadelphia area.

POST (Philadelphia Open Studios Tour)

Where/When: Mt Airy Art Garage, 11 W. Mt Airy Ave, and other sites along Germantown Ave. on Saturday and Sunday from noon-6pm.

Why Go: Artists all over Northwest Philadelphia are opening their studios to the public this weekend. Come to the new Mt. Airy Art Garage and visit more than 20 emerging and professional MAAG member artists from the Northwest who are displaying their fine art and handcrafts. A wide variety of mediums are represented, ranging from photography, to clay, to painting, to jewelry, to metal sculpture, to handcrafted leather goods. Stop by and support your local artists!

Pricing: Free; $5 trolley pass good for the whole day to travel up and down Germantown Ave.

Sunday Market Harvest Special

 Where/When: High Point Café, 7210 Cresheim Rd (at Allens Lane), Sunday from 10am-4pm

Why Go: Celebrate harvest season with food samplings, cider, crafts and more! Local favorites like Food For All, Avenida, and Earth, Bread and Brewery will be selling and sampling various items from their menus. There will also be entertainment for all throughout the day including face painting, a reading of the children's book Cranky Pants, and magic with Richard Horn, PLUS live music with Wanamaker Lewis, Lotus Hill, Art Miron and more!

The Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center 55th Annual Members’ Show

Where/When: Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center, 419 Green Lane (rear), on Saturday and Sunday from noon-6pm. Opening reception Sunday from noon-3pm.

Why Go: Although variety characterizes every monthly exhibit at the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center (MRAC), this one promises an even more diverse spectrum of work. Unlike most of MRAC’s shows, this exhibition is open to submissions from the entire membership of the art center, and hours are extended as part of POST this weekend.

“The Audacity of Opulence” POST Preview at Soft Illusions

Where/When: Soft Illusions Fine Art Gallery, 4203 Main St, on Saturday and Sunday from noon-6pm as part of POST in Manayunk.

Why Go: Resident abstract expressionist artist Diane Vaughn has created this exhibit just for you – the designer, the stylist, the lover of fine things. Experience pure unhinibited opulence in this show.
