Rabid Raccoon Bites Person, is Captured in Wissahickon

It bit someone near Valley Green Inn.

A rabid raccoon was captured in the Wissahickon Valley after biting a person there, according to a nonprofit that watches over the park.

The Friends of the Wissahickon said in an email Monday that the raccoon had been removed from the park.

It was captured over the weekend after biting someone near and tested positive for rabies.

The organization issued a safety alert after the raccoon tested positive.

"Visitors should exercise extreme caution around park mammals, and report any raccoons or other animals exhibiting strange behavior to local law enforcement and the PA Game Commission's Southeast Regional Office at 610-926-3136," the alert said.
