No More Monkey Business

Monkey Business consignment and thrift shop is closing.

Green Tree Community Health Foundation, operators of Monkey Business cinsginment and thrift shop, announced that the store will close June 30, after 57 years in business.

In the announcement, the foundation gave the reason that the store was losing money:

"The Foundation board agonized over this decision and actually decided in December of 2009 that the shop should close in June of 2010. However, because of concerns raised by Monkey Business's many volunteers, the board reconsidered and laid out a plan whereby the shop would be expected to net $4,000 per year to stay open. Unfortunately, that goal has not been met. Instead, sales have continued to decline."

The release added that the board could no longer justify risking the foundation's goal of providing grant programs for community health by losing money on the store.

The Green Tree Thrift Shop, located behind the , will remain open, the foundation said. For more details, read the full announcement here.
