Chestnut Hill Falls To Roman Catholic

The Blue Devils offense stalled as Roman dominated the game.

ROXBOROUGH- The Chestnut Hill Blue Devils (1-2) lost to the Roman Catholic Cahillites (2-1) 32-7 on Saturday afternoon in Roxborough. Roman controlled the game from the very beginning and would never relinquish the lead.

IN SHORT

On the first play from scrimmage, the Cahillites scored on an 85 yard touchdown reception, putting the the Blue Devils in a 6-0 hole to begin the game. Despite a 51 yard reception from quarterback Michael Hayes to Bobby Keyes, the Blue Devils were unable to score in the first quarter. Roman Catholic would extend its league with a series of marches down the field, resulting in two rushing touchdowns. Chestnut Hill attempted a fake kick late in the second quarter, but could not convert for the first down. Roman would tack on additional 7 points at the end of the half on a passing touchdown as time expired.

Once again, the Blue Devils outplayed their opponent in the second half. Althouugh Hayes went down with an ankle injury, Freshman Paul Dooley did not miss a beat. The defensive stalemate in the second half came to an end after a huge fumble recovery from Terence Jones. Cedric Madden punched the ball in from the 6 yard line to put Chestnut Hill on the scoreboard. However, Roman answered, in the form of a 74 yard reception to set up a 1 yard rushing touchdown.

Cedric Madden- The senior was responsible for the Blue Devils only touchdown, a seven yard run with 7:47 left in the 4th quarter.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES

Paul Dooley- The back-up freshman quarterback remained poised, managing to effectively move the ball in the second half.

Terence Jones- The senior lineman recovered a huge fumble in the 4th quarter, paving the way for the Blue Devils only points of the game.

COACH'S TAKE- "Roman's a good team. They got the best set of skill players in the city. You can't double team, because then someone else will beat you. We have to try to work hard and stay with it. Our team shouldn't feel bad." Head Coach Rick Knox

THEY SAID IT- "Our goal at halftime was to win the second half, and we did 7-6. We tried to give them different looks and not give up. I think we earned their respect."
