Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Are Playing For Everything

The football team is undefeated in the Inter-Ac League.

It seems to be an odd thing—make that an odd-year thing.

In 2007, 2009 and now in 2011 Springside Chestnut Hill was undefeated in the Inter-Academic League and so was Malvern Prep when they met for the league title. In ’07 and ’09, Malvern Prep got the better of the Blue Devils. Blue Devils’ coach Rick Knox and his team face that same scenario this Saturday.

and Malvern Prep are once again the only two undefeated teams in the Inter-Ac. Once again, they’ll determine the Inter-Ac title, when they meet at Malvern Prep this Saturday at 1 p.m. It’s been over four decades since Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, going back to when the school was named Chestnut Hill Academy, has defeated Malvern Prep.

“More than anything, I give our kids a ton of credit,” Knox said. “They’ve take what we give them as coaches and they do a great job with it. I thought we had the talent to get where we are. As a team, I can’t be more proud of our group. We’ve come so far since the beginning of the season. The kids have done everything we’ve asked of them. The first couple of weeks, if you asked me if we’d be playing Malvern Prep for the league title, I’ll admit I would have been surprised. We’re excited about this chance to knock them off. Every single year we’ve had tremendous games with them; a break here or there, we could have won.”
