Masterman, Central Named in Top Five Challenging Schools in PA
The Washington Post released a list based on college-level tests given at high schools throughout the country.
The Washington Post recently released a nation-wide study on which high schools are challenging their students. The results listed the top 30 schools in Pennsylvania, and two Philadelphia schools made the cut.
J.R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School, at 17th and Spring Garden streets, was named second in the state, falling back from the number one spot, a slot it held for at least the last five years, according to the Post's data.
Central High School at Ogontz and Olney avenues took the fifth spot, going down from number three last year.

According to The Post's website, the study based its rankings on "the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2011 divided by the number of graduates that year."
