Friends of J.S. Jenks Outline Goals

President of the organization, Haviva Goldman, spoke to the Chestnut Hill Community Association about the plans for J.S.Jenks Elementary.

Haviva Goldman spoke to the Chestnut Hill Community Association Thursday night about the , organized to help save arts and music programs at Chestnut Hill's public elementary school.

Among other points in Goldman's presentation, she outlined some of the goals that the organization has in mind to help Jenks realize its full potential. Below is the list Goldman provided to the CHCA:

  1. Investing in the Arts: We want to continue and improve the JAM program and and improve the Auditorium performance space for use by students and the community.
  2. Enhancing Information Technology: There is a need to totally modernize the existing library space, and integrate technology into every classroom with the purchase of Promethean boards and mobile computer labs.
  3. Supporting Healthy Lifestyles: The gym and lunchroom needs to be a space that is more conducive to indoor activities; while enhancing acoustics and make it into a community space to accommodate afterschool sports.
  4. Greening Jenks: Chestnut Hill is Philadelphia’s garden village community and we can develop a school garden including composting, as well as beautify our outdoor spaces.
  5. Strengthen the Sciences: We have tremendous resources in Chestnut Hill, including the Morris Arboretum, the Hospital, Friends of the Wissahickon, and through partnerships Jenks could develop a top k-8 science curriculum and experiences for our kids.
