With the future of Germantown High School and 36 other city schools still up in the air, councilwoman Cindy Bass told the Chew-Belfield Neighbors Club that she "still fighting" to keep her district's schools from closing.
"We know the financial situation for the school district is bad," she said. "We understand that some schools might have to close, but let's do what makes sense."
Citing concerns about neighborhood violence and children walking long distances outside of their neighborhoods, Bass said that she favored finding alternative solutions to closing neighborhood schools outright, including the possibility of using existing buildings to house several elementary schools at the same time.
"We want to revitalize our commercial corridor, and a big closed building isn't going to help that." she said."We know good things come from Germantown High School"
