5K Will Support Jenks School

There will be a 5k to support the Jenks School in Chestnut Hill on Oct. 19 as part of Harry Potter weekend.

The following is a press release from the Friends of J.S. Jenks.

The Friends of J.S. Jenks (FOJSJ) is an independent not-for-profit membership organization consisting of parents, teachers, administrators, and civic leaders from across Northwest Philadelphia who all share a dedication to supporting John Story Jenks Elementary School in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia.

On Oct. 19, at 8 a.m., at the Church of St Martin in the Fields (St Martin's Lane and Willow Grove Avenue), theFOJSJ will hold its second annual 5K run / 1 mile walk in support of enrichment programming at J.S. Jenks.  This year, the FOJSJ is thrilled to partner with the CHBA and hold the race in concert with the hugely successful Harry Potter Festival.  Costumed runners encouraged.  Hermione Granger may make an appearance!

The lovely course will wind through the green streets of west Chestnut Hill.  Run The Day, the premier southeastern PA Chronotrack timing partner, has chosen to list the Firebolt 5K, as one of the only timed 5K's in the city without a single traffic light.  A Kids Fun Zone has been sponsored by Bowman Properties and will include a moonbounce on the grounds, plus more activities for children and guided stretching for the athletes.

Registration for the race is $25 for adults and $5 for children.  All money goes to support the Friends of J.S. Jenks, whose mission is to enhance the educational and enrichment opportunities for students at J.S. Jenks by bringing together the financial and creative resources of educators, parents, students, alumni, and the greater community; ensure long-range financial flexibility for J.S. Jenks, allowing the school to develop innovative programs, student support systems, and infrastructure; and forge new partnerships between the school and the cultural, business, and academic institutions in Chestnut Hill. The Friends of J.S. Jenks aims to reinforce the school’s position as a community institution that contributes to the vibrancy of the neighborhood.
