Tuesday's Rain Causes SEPTA Delays

Tuesday's early morning rain caused service delays on the Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail Line.

Service was suspended for an hour on SEPTA's Chestnut Hill West Line on Tuesday during rush hour after heavy rains caused water levels to rises to dangerous levels.

"The bulk of the service disruptions occurred on Regional Rail when flooding and other weather conditions delayed some trains for up to an hour," said SEPTA General Manager Joe Casey in a statement released Tuesday.

"Service during the morning rush hour suffered significant disruptions when a severe thunderstorm swept through the region, bringing with it several inches of rain, flooding, and in some areas, the threat of tornadoes," Casey said.

Casey added:

"Across our system, the AM storm produced an average of 3-4 inches in some areas according to local reports. By 10:00 a.m. much of our service was back to normal, but we still were working to restore service on the Manayunk/Norristown Line until it was returned to service at approximately 3:00 p.m."

Casey thanked SEPTA workers for their efforts to restore service and customers for their patience.

"While there is never a good time for service delays, foul weather conditions just compound the grump factor when all you want to do is get to your destination, so we appreciate your patience," Casey said.
