The Kiosks Are Coming: Hill Lots Will Charge By Summer

The Chestnut Hill Parking Foundation has ordered the kiosks for its lots.

The kiosks are ordered; the fate of Chestnut Hill Parking Foundation lots is set. Lots will begin to charge this spring.

John Ingersoll, president of the CHPF, said, “We’re still going ahead with it. The kiosks have been ordered; we’re not sure of the delivery date. I would think sometime early spring, in March or April.”

The payment kiosks are made by Metric, the same company, and same model, that is used in Center City Philadelphia. The charge will be $1 an hour.

Businesses in the area will be able to purchase tokens to distribute to shoppers if they wish. The tokens will cost 50 cents apiece and provide 30 minutes of free parking.

“Somebody could go into the store, and if they are a regular customer, if the owner wants to give them free parking, they can give them a couple of tokens. The next time they can use those instead of credit cards or cash,” Ingersoll said.

Monthly parking in the lots is also available for a limited number of spots. The fee for this option is $100 a month, but Ingersoll said the spots set aside for it are nearly full and the option will be closed soon.

As for enforcement, the Philadelphia Parking Authority will be picking up the job, and the Parking Foundation will be in close communication with the PPA.

“We will have the ability to offer free days with communication with the Parking Authority. It is going to be a good relationship that we have with them,” Ingersoll said.
