State Rep Shakeup for Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill may be split in General Assembly, if plan passes.

If plans in Harrisburg come to pass, Chestnut Hill's state rep district could be split in two starting in 2012. Following the 2010 Census, state officials analyzed the data and released a preliminary plan for redrawing districts through the state.

Currently largely contained in the 200th District, Chestnut Hill stands to split itself at Germantown Avenue, with the west side incorporated in the 198th District for the House in the General Assembly.

Rep. Cherelle Parker (D-200) loses about half of her Chestnut Hill territory to Rep. Rosita Youngblood (D-198). Formerly representing the neighborhood from the city limit to Willow Grove Avenue, Parker will retain Germantown Avenue east to Stenton Avenue.

Previously Youngblood held a small portion of Chestnut Hill, starting at Mermaid Lane. Under the proposal, Youngblood will assume the neighborhoods along the Wissahickon Creek into Andorra.

In the Senate, LeAnna Washington (D-4) will retain her district with Chestnut Hill in place. The only change to the 4th District will be a pickup of Andorra and parts past Broad Street in Fern Rock.
