Rita's Gets Green Light From DRC—With Conditions

Trash and signage were among the concerns that the committee considered.

The Development Review Committee of the Chestnut Hill Community Association gave Rita’s Water Ice the thumbs up , with a few caveats.

Eileen Reilly, retail recruiter for Chestnut Hill, said that Rita’s Water Ice representatives have already given a verbal commitment to control trash from the franchise.

“They plan on sending an employee out every morning to do a yard sweep, and again at closing. Anything with a ‘Rita’s’ insignia on it is their responsibility,” Reilly said. “They plan on sweeping the entire property twice a day.”

Another concern of the review committee was signage for the entire plaza, something that the managers of the property had agreed to update.

“They would like a recommendation of someone to work with who knows retail and also know Chestnut Hill and what would fit here for a new façade,” Reilly said.

After hearing support from near neighbors, the committee voted unanimously to recommend the franchise for the plaza to the CHCA board.

With the committee’s recommendation, the board is scheduled to vote on the potential new franchise .
