Monday Deadline for General Election Nomination Petitions

Two last-minute candidates are attempting to get on the ballot for the 8th District council seat.

Monday is the deadline for candidates to file nomination petitions for November's general election.

According to the Board of Elections office in Philadelphia, candidates have until 5 p.m. to submit their petitions. At least 750 non-contestable signatures are required to be placed on the ballot.

For the 8th District City Council race, two candidates have decided to make last-minute attempts to get places on the ballot.

, with the Green Party, wrote in an email Friday morning that he was "well over halfway there" and that his progress was "hopeful, but not in the bag yet.

According to The Philadelphia Citypaper, Jim Foster, publisher of Germantown Newspapers, was also making an attempt at getting on the ballot as an Independent. Foster did not immediately return calls for comment.

The Philadelphia Board of Elections reported that, as of 11 a.m. Monday morning, no petitions had yet been filed for the 8th District City Council seat.
