No ID? How to Get One in Time to Vote

The Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition is spreading the word on what kind of IDs will be accepted as proof of residence in the November election.

The valid forms of identification include: Pennsylvania driver's license, PennDOT-issued non-driver photo ID, current U.S. passport, U.S. government-issued ID, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania-issued ID, and military, municipal or college IDs with expiration dates.

If you do not have a photo ID, the coalition made it clear in a that residents can get one for free. Here's how:

Free IDs for Voting from PennDOT

According to Coalition member Stephen Cohen, as long as you are sure to inform PennDOT that an ID is for voting purposes only, you can obtain a free ID at PennDOT locations. The closest PennDOT location to Chestnut Hill is located at 7171 Ogontz Ave. in West Oak Lane.

What you'll need

To get a photo ID card, you will need to bring in your official Social Security card, and one of the following:

• Official birth certificate
• Valid U.S. Passport
• Certificate of U.S. Citizenship
• Certificate of naturalization

You will also need two proofs of residency, which can be:

• a lease agreement
• utility bills
• W-2 form
• tax records
• mortgage documents
• current gun permit
