Greene Street Gets Green Light for Expansion

The building housing the consignment shop was approved for variances to expand in the rear.

The Board of Directors of the Chestnut Hill Community Association unanimously approved a bid from Sanjiv Jain, owner of the building at 8524 Germantown Ave., to expand the commercial space into the open space behind the building.

The building, which is currently home to , will expand to include all but 10 feet of the area behind the store. The remaining space will be used for delivery vehicles to pull up and unload.

“She’s doing fabulous. This is her seventh store. She moved to Chestnut Hill, and is doing great. She has been in this business over 20 years, all of her stores are still in business.”

The process of securing the expansion has gone through several of the association’s committees before reaching the final vote Thursday night from the CHCA Board of Directors. Jain said the shop is eager to begin the expansion.

“I spoke with her operations manager, who said ‘we really need to know how much longer,’” Jain said.

The second floor of the building will remain residential, Jain added, and the parking spaces behind the shop will be moved, with monthly permits, into the nearby Chestnut Hill Parking Foundation lot.
