Polls

7:15 p.m.: Fire Engine Co. #39 (21st Ward; 22 Division): Lee Shelly ‏@LiiShelly on Twitter said: "Voting in Manayunk took 1 minute... Everyone there was very nice and we got Spanish stickers!!"

7:12 p.m.: Germantown Jewish Center (22nd Ward; 4th and 5th Divisions): Lots of turnout all day—488 and 448 voters, respectively. The pace has dropped off a little as it's almost closing time. Poll workers do not anticipate a late night surge.

7:10 p.m.: Roxborough Library (21st Ward; 28th Division): Diana Colucci Melnick on Facebook shared her experience: "Voted at 3 PM at the Rox Library. No line at all and very friendly poll workers. But I was only #278 for the day!"

7:02 p.m.: Knights of Columbus (21st Ward; 20th and 21st Divisions) and Hillside Recreation Center (21st Ward; 8th and 9th Divisions): Edward Fidler said on Facebook: "Voted at K of C....5-10 minutes total about an hour ago. Standing outside Hillside Rec for my sons football practice and it seems quick here as well. Good turnout."

6:58 p.m.: Shawmont Elementary School (21st Ward; 5th and 30th Divisions): In the late afternoon, Alice George on Facebook said, already, she was the 437th voter of the day. Plus, the line wasn't too big.

6:55 p.m.: Roxborough YMCA (21st Ward, 41st Division): Anna Pace Atchick says on Facebook that a line causes a 15-minute wait.

6:45 p.m.: Cliveden Convalescent Center (22nd Ward; 3rd Division): No line here and, so far, 491 votes were cast. Residents and Obama volunteers mill around the polling place.

6:35 p.m: Summit Presbyterian Church (22nd Ward; 1st and 2nd Divisions): No wait at the polls. Both divisions report well over 500 ballots cast, with division two within 200 votes of 100 percent turnout, officials said.

6:15 p.m.: Lincoln Drive and West Rittenhouse Street: Supporters for President Obama wave American flags and election banners as motorists drive up the busy commuter route.

6:10 p.m.: Knights of Columbus Hall (21st Ward; 20th and 21st Divisions): No lines here, says Joanna Lee White on Facebook.

6 p.m.: Salvation Army (21st Ward; 29th and 40th Divisions): Loula Boula said on Facebook: "(I)t was painless. No lines and no voter intimidation."

5:30 p.m.: Saul High School (21st Ward; 32nd and 38th Divisions): The report from the Henry Avenue high school yields positive voter turnout. So much so, one poll worker stated, the 32nd Division had about 10 percent more at this time than in 2008—currently at 55 percent.

A little earlier, George Russell said on Facebook: "Saul school around 4:30 was also less than 5 min."

5:20 p.m.: Northern Children's Services (21st Ward; 15th Division): Small but steady line at this one precinct, campaign workers say. Pretty sleepy this Election Day—only noteworthy thing is the bitter cold as the sun sets.

5:10 p.m.: Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School (21st Ward; 14th, 16th, 35th Divisions): Poll workers say the turnout has been steady all day. One Democratic volunteer complained about the two Republican poll workers stationed at the precinct. But, as an election judge ruled earlier in the day, they can stay.

5 p.m.: Roxborough Memorial Hospital (21st Ward; 25th, 26th, 36th, and 37th Divisions): Poll workers say more than 50 percent turnout thus far.

City Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. (D-4) thanked volunteers in Roxborough. He said phantom text messages reached some voters incorrectly saying to push the Obama button twice, nullifying the vote.

Overall, Jones said Tuesday was positive.

"We're seeing unprecedented turnout in some areas. It rivals 2008. Our district office has dealt with some issues, but it's mostly been quiet," he said.

At 7:20 he was having people use paper write in ballots and placing ballots on desk next to him. Not very secure nor do he call anyone for help. I'll go back after work to vote."

When Patch checked in, poll workers said they struggled to get voting machines going early on. The problem: They weren't plugged in. However, everything now functions.
