Contacting Your Elected Officials About the Debt Ceiling Talks

Ways to contact Rep. Chaka Fattah and Sens. Robert Casey and Pat Toomey.

"I'm asking you all to make your voice heard," President Obama said in a speech about national debt ceiling talks Monday. "If you want a balanced approach to reducing the deficit, let your member of Congress know."

Below is information about how to get in touch with your elected officials, along with a statement from each of them on the issue.

Here's how to get in touch with Rep. Chaka Fattah (D), whose district covers Mt. Airy:

On the issue: "Debt Free America (a bill that Fattah has introduced in the House) calls for a consumption fee of 1 percent or less on virtually all transactions in the American economy. The revenue from this transaction fee on consumption would be exclusively dedicated to paying down and retiring the national debt within a decade ... No other proposal will eliminate our debt and give our economy free reign to grow and prosper."

To get in touch with Sen. Robert Casey Jr. (D), here's what you do:

- Call his Washington office at 202-224-6324
- Call his local office at 215-405-9660

On the issue: “It is unfortunate that some in Washington have chosen to continue putting partisan gamesmanship ahead of the economic needs of our country. Government spending must be cut and the deficit must be reduced. However, this should be done through shared sacrifice—not on the backs of those who could least afford it. Powerful special interests should not be exempt while Medicare and working Pennsylvanians are targeted."

And here are the steps to contact Sen. Pat Toomey (R):

- Call his Washington office at 202-224-4254
- Call his local office at 215-241-1090
- Send him an email here by filling out a form.

On the issue: "I am extremely disappointed that President Obama and the Democrat leadership have chosen to engage in demagoguery and political scare tactics instead of engaging Congress in a solution that will actually solve our increasingly dangerous debt problem. Over the course of the next week, I urge the president to work with Congress to find a solution that puts our federal government on a path to a balanced budget and helps drive economic growth."
