Congress Votes: Senate Approves House Tax Break Bill

An account of legislative votes in Congress.

The Senate last week took up an approved House bill on government contractors, amended it and passed a measure. The bill seeks to stimulate job growth by nixing a tax withholding requirement and awaits reconciliation with the original bill before reaching President Obama's desk. The House did not take up legislation in full session.

United States Senate 

HR674: In a 95-0 vote Nov. 10, the Senate passed a bill that frees up companies that do business with government offices by killing a tax requirement, in the hopes of creating jobs. The bill removes a 3 percent IRS withholding requirement on payments made by the government. The Senate amended the House version () to require better monitoring of tax payments by vendors.

PN856: Confirming a judicial nominee from President Obama, the Senate approved an appointment to the United States Circuit Court in New York. Voting 99-0, the Senate confirmed Evan Jonathan Wallach to the post. He was nominated by President Obama in July.
