Tuesday Night is National Night Out

The 28th annual event is an effort by the National Town Watch Association.

Tuesday is National Night Out, an annual event that works to prevent crime and drugs organized by the National Town Watch Association.

More than 37 million people from more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide participated in last year's event. This year is the 28th year for National Night Out.

The purpose of the event is to get community members involved in the community’s crime prevention and safety efforts. Each year, it is marked by block parties, educational events and town watch gatherings.

The Philadelphia Police 14th district had several events going on within the district.

Carpenter’s Woods Town Watch is “giving crime a going away party" at C. W. Henry School Tuesday night from 7–9 p.m. Free water ice and other refreshments will be given out as neighborhood members bring out chairs and blankets, and flashlights to “light up the night.”

City-wide events are taking place in Center City Philadelphia. A Night Out Kick-Off Rally, hosted by Town Watch Integrated Services is taking place 6-9 p.m. at City Hall in the west side of Dilworth Plaza.

SEPTA will also be hosting an event for National Night Out. At SEPTA Transit Police headquarters, 11th Street and Nedro Avenue, the community can meet law enforcement officers from SEPTA in addition to those from other local, state and federal agencies from 6-8 p.m.

For those who cannot attend one of the many National Night Out events, they are asked to turn their porch lights and back lights on in an effort to “turn off crime.”
