Norristown Named 59th 'Most Dangerous City in the U.S.'

Norristown was ranked behind other Pennsylvania cities like Philadelphia (#52), Harrisburg (#20) and Chester (#2).

Neighborhood Scout, a data-collecting website, has released a list of the Top 100 Most Dangerous Cities in the U.S. according to data it's collected and parsed and Norristown clocks in at #59. Other Pennsylvania cities ranked include Philadelphia (#52), Harrisburg (#20) and Chester (#2).

According to the website, cities with 25,000 or more people were ranked based on the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Violent crimes recorded included murder, forcible rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault. The Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Uniform Crime Reports were used to compile the list.

The chance of being a victim of violent crime or property crime in Norristown is 1 in 24, according to the website's reading of the data. They've also noted that Norristown has one of the highest rates of motor vehicle theft in the country.

Okay, just how many crimes have we had in the last year! How many of those have we never heard about. How many scum bag deal drugs or rob people and yet get away with it because the police don't care or the DJ's don't bother throwing the book at them. Simpson and all his like should come live down in my neighborhood and watch the hookers and drug addicts swarm like flies on s__t. All these community meetings and all they talk about is youth violence. B_l S_t! the criminals I see daily are not children, they are adults. Why doesn't the community stand up to these folks and do something. We need the guardian angels in here or some group like Pottstown did. The police are not going to do anything, especially with council giving the job to Richet. Richet's drug dealing son must really be happy since Daddy will be the new police chief and he will be able to ride around in his ice cream truck all day selling drugs. I bet he will park his ice cream truck right outside of municipal hall and not be bothered.

What can be done to curb the violence? Last year the High School had over 25 incidents of assault within their building alone. Why has the county of Montgomery and the state of Pennsylvania given up on Norristown? The Mexican influx into the town make them the majority minority yet, they are not represented in the political landscape. Norristown as no infrastructure, no jobs to offer, most housing in the borough are rentals owned by people who don't live in or care about the town, What is it for a teenager to do for entertainment? It's a blatant disregard for the well being of a once great town, Not too long conshohocken,,phoenixville, plymouth, etc.would have traded places to be norristown. Now look at those comunities.
