Missing Swimmer Identified as Philadelphia Teenager

Corinthian Hammond, 14, went missing near 9th Street Sunday evening. He remained missing Tuesday afternoon.

The teenager who went missing in Ocean City on Sunday evening has been identified as 14-year-old Corinthian Hammond of Philadelphia, 6 ABC reports. 

He remained missing on Tuesday.

Hammond's family rushed to Ocean City from their home when they learned he had been swept up in a rip tide by 9th Street Sunday evening, according to the report.

A pair of new warning signs were posted telling people to stay off the jettys, ocnjdaily.com reports.

The Coast Guard suspended the search for Hammond on Tuesday,but Ocean City Fire Chief Christopher J. Breunig said local officials will continue a passive search for the next couple of days.

A group of individuals entered the water of an unprotected beach off 9th Street in Ocean City Sunday evening, around 6:45 p.m. and quickly got caught in a rip tide and swept out from the beach.

Several others who attempted to help them also get caught in the rip tide, according to the Ocean City Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol Rapid Response Team was activated from 12th Street and arrived on location within a minute. The response team rescued and removed 14 people from the water, but Hammond remained missing.
