Fire Trucks That Don't Fit in the Station

Engine 37 on West Highland Avenue has new fire trucks that do not fit in the old fire house.

The Highland Avenue fire station is facing what the Chestnut Hill Community Association President Brien Tilley called “an interesting situation.”

Engine 37, at 101 W. Highland Ave., has new fire trucks. The problem is that the new fire trucks are “six or seven inches wider than what the station was built for,” Tilley said.

The matter came up at the CHCA Executive Committee meeting Thursday night, because the fire station contacted the association to discuss whether the building could or should be retrofitted. As it stands, however, the trucks cannot fit into the station’s entrance.

“That building, architecturally, might have some significance. They wanted to consult with us on the basic structure and aesthetics,” Tilley said.

Joyce Lenhardt, Vice President of the association’s Physical Division, said that the Engine 37 was also considering keeping the trucks next to the station.

The association and Engine 37 will continue to consult on the matter.
